During the WitcherCon online event organized by CD Projekt Red and Netflix on Friday, it was announced that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt update coming this year for next-gen consoles will also be getting free DLCs inspired by the Netflix show.
The first season of The Witcher debuted on Netflix in December 2020 and the show is returning for a second season in December 2021. Last year, it was reported that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt had seen more gameplay time thanks to the popularity of the Netflix show.
CD Projekt Red first announced the next-gen update last September promising “a range of visual and technical improvements, including ray tracing and faster loading times — across the base game, both expansions, and all extra content.” Those who already own the game on the Xbox One, PS4 and on PC will get the free upgrade when they switch to the Xbox One X/S or the PlayStation 5. It will also be available as a standalone purchase to new buyers on next-gen consoles and the PC.
An animated prequel, titled Nightmare of the Wolf, focussed on the events before The Witcher featuring Vesemir will debut on Netflix on August 23, 2021.
