Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan called the upcoming Uncharted Movie and The Last of Us series “just the beginning” in a video appearance as part of Sony’s participation at CES 2021. Uncharted movie stars Tom Holland as Nathan Drake and is set to be released on July 16, 2021. HBO has also given a series order to The Last of Us and it is set to be a co-production between Sony Pictures Televisions and PlayStation Productions.
“We’re also really thrilled to bring some of the best PlayStation IP to new media like film and television,” Ryan disclosed in Sony’s CES 2021 video. “You’ll see this year the upcoming Tom Holland film, Uncharted, based on our iconic adventure games. And The Last of Us, a gritty emotional journey, will be coming to HBO. This is just the beginning of the expansion of our storytelling into new media and even wider audiences. Sony is a creative entertainment company, and entertainment has never been more important.”
In his brief video appearance, Ryan went further to speak on the success of the PlayStation 5. “PlayStation 5 was SIE’s (Sony Interactive Entertainment) most successful launch and the biggest console launch of all time,” Ryan says. Demand for Sony’s next-gen console has been unprecedented with many still yet to lay their hands on the PlayStation 5.
Hollywood stars, Antonio Banderas and Mark Wahlberg will be joining Holland on the Uncharted movie while HBO’s The Last of Us series will be written by Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann and HBO Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin.
