Samsung today announced its new $199 Galaxy Buds Pro at the Unpacked Event. The wireless earbuds are its most premium yet, featuring active noise cancellation and amplification. Samsung has made a little adjustment to the design in order to improve comfort and minimize pain when wearing them.
Samsung launched the Galaxy Buds Plus and the Galaxy Buds Live last year, this year’s Galaxy Buds Pro takes inspiration from that with a similar in-ear design to the Galaxy Buds Plus. The Buds Pro does not have the same bean-shaped look but the charging cases look alike.
Last year’s models came with active noise cancellation but Samsung claims this has been improved upon with a 99% noise cancellation on the Galaxy Buds Pro. Samsung is also introducing a new “Ambient Sound” feature which lets users amplify the nearby sounds up to 20 decibels. The wireless earbuds will switch into ambient mode automatically and lower your music volume when it senses you are talking.
As for its sound quality, the Galaxy Buds Pro feature dual speakers – an 11mm woofer and a 6.5mm tweeter. The earbuds also feature three in-built microphones which Samsung says is the best ever in any wireless earbud. The microphones are paired with a wind shield technology which ensures audio and video calls are crystal clear.
In terms of battery life, Samsung says users can expect up to 5hrs of music playback with active noise cancellation enabled or 8hrs without it. The charging case has a 472 mAh battery that offers an additional 13hrs of music playback with ANC or 20hrs without ANC per charge. The Galaxy Buds Pro are also water and sweat resistance with an IPX7 rating.
Samsung has included features that can only be used when the Galaxy Buds Pro is connected to one of its flagship devices, most notably the ability to switch automatically between a Galaxy Tab and a Galaxy and a Galaxy phone just like Apple’s AirPods Pro.
Pre-order is up today and the Galaxy Buds Pro will be available in black, silver and violet colours tomorrow from retailers.
