Samsung Announces the Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus with AI-Powered Features

Samsung’s Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus are finally here. The devices were announced at the annual Galaxy Unpacked event on Wednesday and they bring refreshed designs and improved performance. Pre-orders for the S24 Galaxy smartphones are live – the Galaxy S24 starts at $799, Galaxy S24 Plus at $999.99, and the Galaxy S24 Ultra begins at $1,299.99.

In terms of display, the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus feature AMOLED panels. The Galaxy S24 has a 6.2-inch FHD+ screen while the Galaxy S24 Plus has a bigger 6.7-inch screen but with a QHD+ panel. While the Galaxy S24 Ultra has a titanium frame, both the S24 and S24 Plus only come with aluminium frames. The devices are also protected with the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The camera specs are unchanged from last year. Both the S24 and S24 Plus feature a 50mp main shooter, 12mp ultrawide lens, and 10mp telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.

The Galaxy S24 lineup features hardware upgrades with AI-powered features never seen before in any Samsung Galaxy device. Under the hood, the Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus run on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for US models, while the ones for other markets are powered by Samsung’s in-house Exynos chipset. The chipset is paired with 8GB of RAM on the S24, while the S24 Plus comes with 12GB of RAM. The S24 is available in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage variants, while the S24 Plus has 256GB and 512GB storage variants.

Samsung S24 Ultra

The Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus ships with Android 14 out of the box, layered with the One UI 6.1. There are useful AI-powered features now, Generative Edit in the Gallery app lets users carry out a lot of smooth editing such as removing a subject in photos and filling in parts of a photo. Live Translate now works in real-time for voice calls, and users can easily translate calls into their native language thanks to AI.

While battery capacities are improved from last year with 4,000mAh on the S24 and 4,900mAh for the S24 Plus, maximum charging speeds are unchanged at 25W and 45W respectively. Both phones support Fast Wireless Charging 2.0 up to 15W.
