Sony is raising the prices of PS5 consoles in the US, citing a “challenging economic environment.” The price hike affects the PS5, the Digital Edition PS5, and the PS5 Pro starting from Thursday, August 21st.
The news does not come as a surprise, and it was expected that Sony would increase the price of its consoles in the US after announcing a similar hike in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand in April. Back in April, the company said the price increase was due to “high global inflation rates” and “challenging economic conditions.”
Prices for all PS5 models in the US have now been increased by $50. The new prices are as follows:
- PlayStation 5 – $549.99
- PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – $499.99
- PlayStation 5 Pro – $749.99
As per Sony’s announcement, the recommended retail prices of PlayStation 5 accessories are still the same.
