On Wednesday at his annual Made by Google event, Google announced the Pixel 10 series, which includes the base Pixel 10, the Pixel 10 Pro, and the Pixel 10 Pro XL. Google’s latest Tensor G5 processor powers the devices, and they come with upgrades in the camera department.
For the first time, the base Pixel 10 joins the Pro models in having a triple rear camera setup. There is a new telephoto lens capable of 5x optical zoom and 20x digital zoom enabled by Super Res Zoom. In addition to the telephoto lens, there is a 48MP primary shooter and a 13MP ultra-wide lens. The Pixel 10 Pro and the Pixel 10 Pro XL feature an improved 50MP primary shooter with optical stabilisation and up to 20x Super Res Zoom for videos. Both Pro models also feature a 50MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom and up to 100x Super Res digital zoom.
Display sizes are the same as last year’s Pixel 9 series – the Pixel 10 and the Pixel 10 Pro have a 6.3-inch screen, while the Pixel 10 Pro XL has a 6.8-inch display. As per Google, the Pixel 10 is capable of 3,000 nits of brightness, while the Pro models can go up to 3,300 nits thanks to a new “actua” display.
Just like last year’s Pixel 9 series, AI is a mainstay in the Pixel 10 series. The devices are powered by the Tensor G5 chip, which provides a significant upgrade in performance. CPU performance is better by 34% and Tensor Processing Unit performance is by 60% over the Tensor G4 chip, which enables faster and improved AI features. Gemini Live gets an upgrade, enabling visual overlays with videos. Magic Cue, a new AI feature that provides contextual information, comes to the Pixel 10 series, while real-time translations are now available for calls.
Google’s colour lineup for the Pixel 10 series includes the usual “Porcelain” and “Obsidian” – which gets a slight update, and the addition of “Jade” and a “Moonstone.”
Pricing for the Pixel 10 and the Pixel 10 Pro starts at $799 and $999, respectively, just like last year’s Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro. However, the Pixel 10 Pro XL now starts at $1,199 instead of $1,099, with an increased base storage of 256GB. Pre-orders are underway, while the phones will be available on August 28.
