Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yotei releases October 2nd on the PS5. On Thursday, Sony showcased a 19-minute-long deep dive dedicated to its gameplay, combat, open world environments, and more. Yotei is the next instalment from Sucker Punch in the Ghost series, after concluding the story of Jin Sakai in Tsushima.

In Ghost of Yotei, the new protagonist, Atsu, is a lone wolf touted as an Onryo (a Japanese spirit of vengeance) by locals. Atsu is determined to punish the Yotei Six – the gang who ruthlessly slaughtered her entire family when she was young, and nothing will come between her and the quest for vengeance.

Ghost of Yotei is set in a fictional depiction of Ezo (now known as Hokkaido) in Japan. The deep dive showcased the beautiful open world of Ezo and Mount Yotei, which is an iconic location in the game. In the game, combat has been refined and improved, there are new weapons, new sounds, and there is even a relaxing lo-fi beats mode for players who want to chill and experience the story.

Sucker Punch says the game is designed for players’ enjoyment, and nothing will be rushed. Players will have the freedom to make in-game choices that unlock specific gameplay elements. In terms of the combat, the studio says it wants players to enjoy the feeling of a “classic Samurai movie”. As part of Atsu’s quest, she will be accompanied by a new character, a wolf, who joins her in killing enemies on the way.

Sony also revealed a limited-edition Ghost of Yotei-themed PS5 console bundle and accessories. Players will also be able to purchase limited edition themed cover plates for their PS5 Pro consoles.

It has not been the best year for PS5 exclusives. Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2: On the Beach was released last month, and Ghost of Yotei will be released on October 2nd. No other first-party title is scheduled for the year.
