Sony Unveils DualSense, the New Wireless Controller for PlayStation 5

While we are still waiting to see what the PlayStation 5 looks like, Sony today announced DualSense, the new wireless controller for the PlayStation 5. The DualSense will replace the hugely popular DualShock 4 which Sony launched back in 2013 with the PS4.

Sony has not entirely revamped its gaming controls but it has added new features while also retaining the basic functionality of the DualShock 4. Sony says it worked with developers to come up with the final output of the PlayStation 5’s controller.

As announced before, the DualSense will be coming with haptic feedback “which adds a variety of powerful sensations you’ll feel when you play, such as the slow grittiness of driving a car through mud.” Sony has also integrated adaptive triggers into the L2 and R2 buttons which makes players feel the tension of actions like when shooting a gun or drawing a bow to shoot an arrow. Ultimately, Sony says it developed the DualSense so players can get a deeper sense of immersion when playing the PS5.

One of the new features Sony has added is a “Create” button which replaces the “Share” button on the DualShock 4. With the “Create” button, Sony says players will have new ways “to create epic gameplay content to share with the world, or just to enjoy for themselves.”

The new wireless controller also comes with a built-in microphone with which players can chat without using a headset. Sony has also changed the colour scheme to a two-toned design, the Dual Sense is dominated by a creamy white colour with patches of black. Sony has also tweaked the overall design to give a rounded shape which resembles that of the Xbox.

Finally, the controller now comes with a USB-C which gives a lot of options in terms of connectivity. Sony promises to share more information about the PS5 in the coming months.
