Samsung has decided to announce Galaxy Z Flip 5G some days earlier than the August 5th Unpacked event it had originally been scheduled for. The Unpacked event will now focus on the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra, the Galaxy Z Fold 2, the Galaxy Buds Live and we could also see the Galaxy Tab S7.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G shares similar hardware with the original Galaxy Z Flip. The differences come in the addition of a new Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset with a 5G modem, and two new colours – Mystic Bronze and Mystic Grey.
In terms of weight, it has the same 183g but it is 0.1mm thicker at the hinge. It has a 6.7 inch folding Dynamic AMOLED screen inside with a 2636x1080px resolution and a a 1.1-inch 300x112px Super AMOLED cover display on the outside.
The smartphone has two outer cameras – a 12MP main shooter with f/1.8 aperture and a 12MP ultrawide with an f/2.2 aperture. On the inside, it has a 10MP f/2.4 selfie camera with autofocus.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip ships Android 10 out of the box based on One UI 2.1 which brings some exclusive features like Flex Mode. Flex Mode splits apps into two like showing the control buttons below and the main half screen on the top half.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5G will be available in the US through AT&T and T-Mobile from August 5. It will retail for $1,450, $70 more than the original model. Pre-order has begun in Germany via T-Mobile. It is starting at €829 with a monthly plan, and those who pre-order before August 6 will get a limited gift box valued at €300.
