HBO’s live adaptation of PlayStation’s The Last of Us video game series will officially debut on HBO and HBO Max on January 15th. HBO released the first trailer in September, showcasing similar scenes in the post-apocalyptic video game.
HBO’s The Last of Us series is based on Naughty Dog’s critically acclaimed The Last of Us series video game. The series stars Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie. Naughty Dog’s co-president Neil Druckmann and Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin are writers and executive producers of the show. Like in the video game, the TV series will tell the story of Ellie and Joel as they try to survive the postapocalyptic United States overridden by zombies and dangerous humans.
The first season of the TV series will have nine episodes, and there are high hopes it will be successful. Originally released in 2013 for the PS3, The Last of Us was remastered for the PS4 in 2014 before Sony made a remake again “from the ground up” for the PS5 in 2022.
