Monday, September 26th was The Last of Us Day, and HBO released a first trailer showcasing what to expect from its upcoming adaption of Naughty Dog’s critically acclaimed video game. Almost 2 minutes long, the trailer captures key moments from the 2013 video game, which recently got remade for the PlayStation 5.
The Last of Us TV show stars The Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal as Joel and Game of Thrones’ Bella Ramsey as Ellie. Just like in the video game, the series will chronicle the story of Joel and Ellie as they journey through the apocalyptic United States infested by a deadly fungal infection. Joel and Ellie will try to stay alive while battling their way through mutated zombie-like creatures and aggressive humans desperate for survival.
The Last of Us will premiere on HBO and HBO Max in 2023, but no specific release date has been announced yet. HBO showcased some of its upcoming projects in August, including a first look at The Last of Us, indicating the company expects the show to be a massive hit.
The upcoming series is written by Naughty Dog’s co-president Neil Druckmann and HBO’s Chernobyl Craig Mazin. The show will be executive produced by both writers alongside Carolyn Strauss from HBO Chernobyl’s and Game of Thrones and Naughty Dog’s Evan Wells and PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan.
