HBO has given fans a first look at The Last of Us season 2 as part of its Coming to Max trailer for 2024-2025. The trailer shows familiar scenes from The Last of Us Part II video game; an indication of what to expect from the show’s second season. The second season is not expected to debut until 2025.

The trailer showcases new characters such as Kaitlyn Dever who plays Abby, Jeffrey Wright as Isaac, and Isabela Merced as Dina. There was also a conversation between Joel (Pedro Pascal) and an unknown character played by the familiar Catherine O’Hara. “Did you hurt her?” she asks Joel. “No,” he replies. “Then what, what did you do?” she asks again. “I saved her,” he replies.

Earlier in June, in a conversation with Deadline, showrunner Craig Mazin confirmed that the second season will be shorter, having only seven episodes. In comparison, the first season has nine episodes. It could also take four seasons for the story to be completed.

The Last of Us season 1 followed events from the first part of the video with some little deviations. Part of the deviations includes an expansion on the Bill and Frank love story, which was unavailable in the video game. The season is expected to follow events from The Last of Us Part II video games with some deviations as seen from the trailer.

HBO’s Coming to Max trailer also contained glimpses from upcoming shows such as The Penguin, Dune: Prophecy, It: Welcome to Derry, and a new Game of Thrones spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
