The second season of HBO’s hit series The Last of Us will debut in 2025. Max confirmed the release window in its “One to Watch” trailer which showcased its upcoming lineup for the year ahead. Other titles coming to Max in 2025 include The White Lotus, And Just Like That, and Euphoria.

Production on The Last of Us season 2 hit a setback after the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) went on strike. The WGA strike went on for nearly five months ending in September, while the SAG agreed to stop its strike on November 9. In a conversation with Variety, showrunner Craig Mazin revealed production will commence on February 12th, 2024. Before the strike, planning for the second season had already begun, and Mazin submitted the script for the first episode to HBO just before the strike commenced.

The second season of The Last of Us will follow events from the Last of Us Part II video game, which took place some years after the events of the first season. Pedro Pascal (Joel) and Bella Ramsey (Ellie) will reprise their roles, while a cast has reportedly been found for Abby Anderson.

The Last of Us Part II video game, from which the series is being adapted was first released in 2020 on the PlayStation 4 but is now getting a remaster on the PlayStation 5 on January 19th, 2024. The game became the most-awarded game of all time before it was recently dethroned by Elden Ring.
