In a surprise move from Sony, God of War Ragnarök is getting a DLC on December 12, and it will be free to download on the PS5 and PS4. The announcement trailer for the expansion, God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla was released during the Game Awards 2023 live event.
Sony’s Santa Monica Studio released God of War Ragnarök in 2022, and the game has sold more than 15 million units, as of November 19, 2023. Like the No Return mode, in the upcoming The Last of Us Part II Remastered, the God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla expansion will be played in a roguelike format.
According to Sony, Valhalla will be an epilogue to the events of God of War Ragnarök. “Set after the decisive battle against Odin and Atreus’ departure, Kratos has seen a path for himself that he never thought possible before,” Sony shared in a PlayStation blog post. “Brought to the mysterious shores of Valhalla accompanied only by Mimir, Kratos will enter its unknown depths to overcome trials within himself and face echoes of his past.”
Since the DLC is made in a roguelike mode, when Kratos dies, he will reawaken outside the gates of Valhalla to continue his quest. “During each attempt, you will learn and adapt to the challenges Valhalla has to offer, Sony says. “The more you overcome, the more resources you’ll gain that can be put towards permanent upgrades that affect both Kratos and even Valhalla itself.”
God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla will be available to download for free on the PS5 and PS5 for players who already own God of War Ragnarök.
