WhatsApp in an official blog post yesterday announced a revamp of its status feature in a move cloning Snapchat stories. Update started rolling out yesterday and will get to everyone within the next few days.
The blog post reads, ‘We are excited to announce that, coinciding with WhatsApp’s 8th birthday on February 24, we are reinventing the status feature. Starting today, we are rolling out an update to status, which allows you to share photos and videos with your friends and contacts on WhatsApp in an easy and secure way. Yes, even your status updates are end-to-end encrypted.’
It further stated, ‘Just like eight years ago when we first started WhatsApp, this new and improved status feature will let you keep your friends who use WhatsApp easily updated in a fun and simple way’
This new feature is like the Snaphat and Instagram stories which disappear after 24hrs. Users will be able to share moments with their contacts as well as status updates. Like in Snapchat, people will see updates shared by their contacts. It would be recalled Snapchat also introduced the option to send and receive GIFs not too long ago.
