TikTok today announced it has reached 1 billion monthly users. The ByteDance-owned company said in a news post over 1 billion people “around the world now come to TikTok every month to be entertained as they learn, laugh, or discover something new.”
“TikTok has become a beloved part of life for people around the world because of the creativity and authenticity of our creators,” the company announced.“Our global community is remarkable in its ability to reach millions of people, across generations. From music, food, beauty and fashion to art, causes, and everything in between, culture truly starts on TikTok.”
TikTok’s rise has been very impressive considering it only became available to all markets in 2018. The company faced difficult moments during the Trump Administration and its parent company was directed to sell to an American buyer to avoid a ban. The ByteDance owned company was finally left off the hook when current U.S President, Joe Biden revoked the ban.
As its popularity continues to grow, the competition has increased from other social media apps with Instagram rolling out Reels and YouTube launching Shorts. TikTok recently increased its video length up to three minutes to give creators more creative freedom.
