In preparation for the release of Astro Bot from Japanese studio Team Asobi on the PS5, Sony has announced a new Limited Edition – Astro Bot DualSense Wireless controller. The new DualSense wireless controller – Astro Bot Limited Edition will be available in “limited quantities” for $79.99/ €79.99 / £69.99 / ¥11,980 and will launch on September 6, the same day the game releases on the PS5.
In 2020 when Sony released the PS5, it came pre-installed with Team Asobi’s Astro Playroom. The game enjoyed positive reviews for its fun play and good use of the DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. It is no surprise to see that a new Astro game is on the way. According to studio head Nicolas Doucet, Astro Bot will feature 50 planets, new powerups, lots of enemies, secrets and PlayStation-infused characters to collect.
The new DualSense wireless controller – Astro Bot Limited Edition features Astro’s blue accents on the handle and buttons. The touchpad also features a familiar playful pair of eyes. With the new controller, players will be able to feel more textures in gameplay.
“We doubled down on the adaptive triggers combined with haptic feedback, by tying them tightly to Astro’s new powers,” Doucet shared in a PlayStation blog post. “For example, when using Barkster, the bulldog Jetpack, you can feel the thruster ratting against your finger in synch with the animation, giving a very dynamic and immersive feeling. Every new power up has been given that same special treatment so you will be able to experience various expressions through your fingers.”
Pre-orders will be open through direct.playstation.com from August 9 at 7am PT in the U.S., 10am local time in the U.K., France, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Austria and Portugal. On the same day, players can make pre-orders in select retailers in other global markets.
While Microsoft and Nintendo have revealed their major upcoming gaming lineup, Sony is yet to reveal anything for the PlayStation 5, but a major showcase is rumoured for September with a PS5 Pro reportedly in the works.
