Meta is rolling out its AI Studio in the US. With AI Studio, anyone can create an AI version of themselves on Instagram, generate memes, and create AI chatbots that will autoreply to people in DMs. The company started an early test in June among a few creators, but the feature is now open to everyone in the US.
Built with Llama 3.1, AI Studio can be accessed from its website or Instagram app. In a blog post, Meta says “you can use a wide variety of prompt templates or start from scratch to make an AI that teaches you how to cook, helps you with your Instagram captions, generates memes to make your friends laugh – the possibilities are endless.” AI Studio is available in chat across all Meta apps including Messenger, WhatsApp, and the web.

To start using AI Studio on Instagram, start a new message and tap on “AI Chats.” From there, you can create an AI character, personalised avatar, bio, and tagline. If you need more guidance on how to make it work best for you, Meta has put together a guide for this. For inspiration, you can check out characters created by some creators, such as Eat Like You Live There by chef Marc Murphy, What Lens Bro by photographer Angel Barclay, Flip Pawsitive Affirmation Dog by actor Rocky Kanaka, and Sammy The Stress Ball from meme creator Assistants vs. Agents.
Through the professional dashboard in the Instagram app, creators will be able to customise their AI characters based on their content, topics they do not like, and links they want to share. For transparency, responses from creator Ais to fans will be labelled.
Meta says it has policies in place to make sure the AI feature is safe and used responsibly.
