Sony’s PS5 Pro Will Reportedly Feature a Powerful GPU and a Slightly Faster CPU

Sony is getting ready to release the PS5 Pro and it has already told developers to ensure that their games are compatible with the upcoming console, The Verge reports. An earlier leak in March suggested the more powerful PlayStation 5 console will be released this holiday season.

The PS5 Pro is reportedly codenamed Trinity, and it will feature a more powerful GPU, around 45 per cent faster than the PS5. Thanks to the improved GPU, Sony can use a “more powerful ray tracing architecture” in games with a speed three times faster than the PS5. Certain titles will enjoy improved resolution and higher frame rates thanks to the “Trinity Enhanced” (PS5 Pro Enhanced) label.

Document obtained by The Verge indicates that “Trinity is a high-end version of PlayStation 5,” and that Sony will continue to sell the standard PS5 after the release of the PS5 Pro. Developers are expected to build games that can take advantage of the PS5 and PS5 Pro capabilities, while already released games will get patches for enhanced performance.

While the CPU on the PS5 Pro will be the same as the standard PS5, it will have a new mode that lets it target 3.85GHz frequency. The new mode will be 10 around per cent faster than the CPU on the standard PS5. Developers will have the option to choose a standard 3.5GHz mode or the 3.85GHz “high CPU frequency mode.”

System memory will be up by 28 per cent from 448GB/s to 576GB/s. The PS5 will support PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), Sony’s answer to Nvidia’s DLSS or AMD’s FSR for better image quality and frame rates.

Developers can order test kits presently and every game submitted to certification in August might be compatible with the PS5 Pro in time for its holiday 2024 release window.
