Sony has more PS5 hardware on the way, and the company is reportedly planning to release a PS5 Pro this holiday season, according to Insider Gaming. The new PS5 Pro will reportedly target “improved and consistent FPS at 4k resolution, a new performance mode for 8k resolution and acclerated ray tracing.”

In February, Sony revealed that the PS5 is entering “the latter stage of its lifecycle” and that it “expects the annual sales pace of the PS5 hardware will start falling from the next fiscal year.” While there was no mention of a PS5 Pro, it would come as no surprise to anyone if the company is truly working on releasing a PS5 Pro this holiday. In 2016, three years after the original release of the PS4, the company launched a PS4 Slim, and a more powerful PS4 Pro with an upgraded GPU and CPU. The company announced a PS5 Slim with a detachable disc drive last November, a further indication that a Pro version of the console could be on the way.

Below are some expected specs of the PS5 Pro according to the leak:

  • Rendering 45% faster than PS5
  • 2-3x Ray-tracing (x4 in some cases)
  • 33.5 Teraflops
  • PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution Upscaling) upscaling/antialiasing solution
  • Support for resolutions up to 8K is planned for future SDK version
  • Custom machine learning architecture
  • AI Accelerator, supporting 300 TOPS of 8 bit computation / 67 TFLOPS of 16-bit floating point

Until an official confirmation is made from Sony, take everything with a pinch of salt.
