Two weeks ago, Apple unveiled its latest iPhones, the standard iPhone 12 and the flagship iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. The iPhone 12 begins shipping this Friday and thanks to a teardown video from Century Weifeng Technology, we now know the battery capacity.
Batteries are big deals with iPhones and Apple raised the bar last year with the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. This year, the iPhone 12 comes with a 2,815mAh battery, 15 percent lower than that of the iPhone 11. This is very surprising since the iPhone 12 features support for 5G connectivity which means the battery will drain even quicker.
From the teardown video, the layout is similar to that of the iPhone 11 but there are major differences which set the iPhone 12 apart. There is a larger logic board due to the 5G connectivity which requires an extra chip. The modem used for the 5G connectivity is Qualcomm’s 5G X55, Apple, however, went with its own 5G antenna designs.
The iPhone 12 is 11 percent thinner and 16 percent lighter than the iPhone 11, this was made possible by a thinner OLED panel setup, the Taptic Engine and also the reduced battery capacity.
One of the most talked-about features is MagSafe. The teardown video reveals the magnetic ring at the back panel which make sure the MagSafe charger is attracted and also with the MagSafe accessories.
