WhatsApp today announced it is rolling out the edit button to all users globally. WhatsApp users can now edit messages up to 15 minutes after sending them. Previously, users could only delete messages permanently after an hour while until WhatsApp extended the timeframe to two days.
“From correcting a simple misspelling to adding extra context to a message, we’re excited to bring you more control over your chats,” WhatsApp shared in a blog post. “All you need to do is long-press on a sent message and choose ‘Edit’ from the menu for up to fifteen minutes after.”
Edited messages will have the ‘edited’ label so the recipient can know the messages have been edited. All edited messages still retain WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption.
WhatsApp says the edit button will be available to everyone “in the coming weeks.”
