Chinese smartphone maker, Xiaomi has released a new device under its sub-brand, Redmi. The product which is the Redmi 7 was launched alongside the Redmi Note 7 at an event in Beijing. Both devices serve as successors of the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A.
The Xiaomi Redmi 7 comes with various features that will excite many consumers. Such features include a trendy design, a decent chipset, and massive battery capacity. With this article, we would like to talk about this new device in detail. But first, let’s look at its key features.

Xiaomi Redmi 7 Design and Display
The Redmi 7 offers a body made from a polycarbonate material which looks like glass when viewed from afar. Furthermore, the device measures 75.6mm in width while it weighs about 180g. With such dimensions, we believe that this smartphone should fit easily into any hand or pocket size.
On the gradient back panel lies a vertically placed camera. Beneath the camera setup lies an LED flash. You will also find a fingerprint scanner at the centre of the same panel.
Concerning the display, the Redmi 7 offers an IPS LCD of 6.26 inches which promises 720 × 1520 pixels. Covered by Gorilla Glass 5, the screen features waterdrop notch which houses the selfie camera of this smartphone.
The Redmi 7 will be available in black, red and blue.
Xiaomi Redmi 7 Camera
For photos, the Redmi 7 features a rear 12MP primary sensor with a 2MP depth sensor. Surprisingly, this sensor was used in Xiaomi’s 2017 flagship, the Mi 6 and will produce high-quality images when paired with the onboard AI of the Redmi 7. Besides, the camera supports HDR and Panorama while it shoots 1080p videos at 30/60fps.
At the front, this new smartphone has an 8MP selfie snapper which has a beauty mode and supports facial recognition. However, this sensor can only shoot 1080p videos at 30fps.
Xiaomi Redmi 7 Hardware and Software
A Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 mobile processor powers the Redmi 7. We want to add that this chipset is a massive upgrade from the MediaTek Helio P22 processor found in the older Redmi 6.
This SoC will work alongside an Adreno 506 GPU to handle the demands of high-resolution graphics.
As regarding storage, the Redmi 7 will be available in three different RAM and storage models. They include a 2GB RAM with 16GB storage variant, another with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage and finally a model with 4GB RAM with 64GB storage. All storages mentioned can be expanded to 512GB with a MicroSD card.
Out of the box, the Redmi 7 features the latest Android 9 Pie wrapped by Xiaomi’s MIUI 9.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Price and Availability
In China, the 2/16GB will cost 699 CNY ($105), the 3GB/32GB version costs 799 CNY ($120) while the 4/64GB costs 999 CNY ($150). Consumers in this location can make purchases as from March 26 however we do not know when other markets will receive shipments of the Redmi 7.
