This month saw the release of various phones with interesting features into markets across the world. One of such phones is the Mi Play. This phone was launched by the Chinese tech company, Xiaomi in China in a campaign in which teaser posters bearing the phone’s image were shown to the public.
This latest addition to Xiaomi’s collection of smartphones offers a moderate screen size, an average chipset and also a certain amount of free data for a year.

Xiaomi Mi Play: Design and Display
The bar-shaped Xiaomi Mi Play has a width of 71.89mm and weighs 150g with the battery. These dimensions give it a look every day with phones within its price range.
Furthermore, the Xiaomi Mi Play has a notched screen of 5.84 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels. The phone has a screen to body ratio of 80.4% and an aspect ratio of 19:9.
At the back panel lies a centrally located fingerprint sensor with a vertical dual primary camera setup. A LED flash lies below the camera. At the edge of the phone, you can find the volume and power buttons which are tactile and easy to use.
The Xiaomi Mi Play features in colours such as black, gold and blue.
Xiaomi Mi Play: Camera
This smartphone has a dual rear setup of a12 MP primary sensor with a f/2.2 aperture and a 2MP secondary sensor. The camera supports AI features and can shoot 1080p videos at 30fps.
The notch houses an 8MP camera with an aperture of f/2.2 and can shoot videos at the same speed as the rear camera. You can unlock the phone via the facial recognition software connected to the selfie snapper.
Xiaomi Mi Play: Hardware and Software
The smartphone will be the first to feature a 12nm MediaTek Helio P35 SoC with an octa-core processor that clocks at 2.3GHz. This setup works alongside a and PowerVR GE8320 GPU to provide quality graphics.
The phone has a RAM of 4GB and 64GB worth of internal storage which you can extend to 256GB via a MicroSD card slot which also doubles as the SIM 2 slot. However, the device has two other variants of 6/64GB and 6/128GB respectively.
This product will run on out of Andriod 8.1 based on Xaiomi’s MIUI V10.0.
Xiaomi Mi Play: Battery and Connectivity
The Xiaomi Mi Play features an embedded lithium polymer battery with a moderate capacity of 3000mAh. The cell has a standby time of 300 hours and talk-time of 12 hours. The Mi Play’s battery supports fast charging.
When it comes to connectivity, the smartphone has dual slots for Nano SIMs and supports GSM, UMTS, and LTE. Most Wi-Fi standards such as Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, n 5GHz, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Hotspot, and Wi-Fi Display. It also supports Bluetooth v4.2 and has a Micro USB 2.0 port for charging and data transfer
Xiaomi promises its consumers free 4GB data packages for a year at 10GB a month. They also claim that the bundle will enable you to stream to as much as 2600 songs or watch 200 episodes of a TV show within 30 days.
This offer makes this budget smartphone and interesting gadget to watch out for; however, the proposal does not extend to global markets.
