When Sony announced Spider-Man: Miles Morales yesterday as part of the games coming to the PS5, it was expected it would be the sequel to the first game released in 2018. Earlier today in an interview with The Telegraph, Sony executive Simon Rutter said the game will be “an expansion and an enhancement to the previous game”. This created some sort of confusion online.
Insomniac Games came out today in a tweet to clarify that, “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is the next adventure in the Marvel’s Spider-Man universe. We will reveal more about this standalone game at a future date,” the studio revealed.
The game will be a standalone version in the form of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy released in 2017 which follows the last game from the Uncharted series, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. Lost Legacy was sold for $39 and not the full $59 Sony sells its new games; the storyline was also shorter than a full Uncharted game.
In a blog post today, Sony says Spider-Man: Miles Morales “will build on and expand Marvel’s Spider-Man through an all-new story”. On the changes coming to the game on PS5, it says “highly-detailed character models and enhanced visuals across the game intensify the story of Miles Morales as he faces great, new challenges while learning to be his own Spider-Man.”
