Samsung has just announced the Galaxy A8s featuring an Infinity-O display which means there be a full circular cut-out of the display will house its selfie camera at the top of the screen.

Apart from the new design, the Galaxy A8s has other exciting specifications for a midrange phone. First, it comes with an impressive chipset which will work alongside 6 or 8GB of RAM. Next, this smartphone will be the first A series phone that comes without a headphone jack.

The Samsung Galaxy A8s has a bar-shape like most phones in the market today. It also has a thickness of 7.4mm, a width of 74.9mm and a height of 158.4mm. The phone weighs about 173 grams.

Behind the phone lies a vertical placed triple camera set-up with an LED flash below. The phone does not come with aheadphone jack which will come as a surprise to fans of the Samsung brand.

When it comes to the display, the Samsung Galaxy A8s sports a 6.4-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. The bezel-less display has an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and a screen to body ratio of 84.56 %. The screen houses both a pinhole camera and a fingerprint sensor.

When it comes to the camera department, the Samsung Galaxy A8s packs a punch. The rear panel of the phone has triple cameras which consist of a 24MP primary sensor with a large f/1.7 aperture and a secondary 10MP telephoto lens with f/2.2 aperture. The cut-out in front of the phone houses a 24MP selfie snapper with f2.0 opening.

Samsung Galaxy A8s: Hardware and Software

This midrange device runs on the powerful Snapdragon 710 chipset with the support of 10nm FinFet process technology and will clock at speeds of 2.2GHz. The chipset will run alongside the Adreno 616 which will make high-resolution gaming a possibility on the device.

The Samsung Galaxy A8s has two variants of 6GB and 8GB of RAM respectively and an internal storage space of 128GB which is extendable to 512GB via the MicroSD slot.

The phone will run on Android 8.1 Oreo-based on Samsung’s UI.

Battery & Network Connectivity

A modest 3400 lithium-ion battery powers the functions of this device thereby giving it extended hours of usag time. The battery is not user replaceable and supports quick charging.

The Galaxy A8s has dual slots for SIM cards and works with 4G, 3G, and 2G. It will also support Wi-Fi 802.11,a/ac/b/g/n; Mobile Hotspot, Bluetooth v5.0. However, it does not support MicroUSB.

Price and Availability

There is no information on when the device will be available to buyers across the world. However, there are speculations that Samsung will launch the phone as soon as the pre-order period (beforeDecember in China) while India should expect the launch of the phone as earlyas February next year.

The price of the device is still unclear, but there’s a possibility that it will fall within the prices of most phones in the upper mid-range segment.
