Rockstar Games on Friday finally confirmed what fans of the Grand Theft Auto series have been waiting for; a new entry is in the works. The company also confirmed a March 15th release date for GTAV on the PS5, Xbox Series X and Series S. The current-gen version of the game was initially scheduled for a release last November before it was delayed till March this year.
“With the unprecedented longevity of GTAV, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series,” Rockstar Games wrote in an announcement on its website. “With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered — and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway.”
It’s been more than eight years since GTAV was originally released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013 and gaming fans have been looking forward to a new entry in the series. Rockstar didn’t give any details about the upcoming game or what it will be called but it’s expected to be GTAVI if the series naming scheme is followed.
For the GTAV PS5, Xbox Series X and Series S version releasing on March 15, Rockstar says it will feature “new graphics modes with up to 4K resolution, up to 60 frames per second, texture and draw distance upgrades, HDR options and ray-tracing, as well as offering the technical advancements of the latest console generation with faster loading times, immersive 3D audio, platform-specific features like advanced haptic feedback, and much more.” Launching on the same day is also a new standalone version of GTA Online which will be free for the first three months on PlayStation 5.
PS4 and Xbox One players of GTAV will be able to transfer their save progress and continue playing on the current-gen version and on GTA Online.
