More than 7 years after its release on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Grand Theft Auto V is coming to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Developer Rockstar announced today the game and its spinoff, GTA Online will be launching on next-gen consoles November 11, 2021.
Rockstar says the next-gen version will be “expanded and enhanced” and promised “even more fun surprises to share — including some specifically for GTA Online players,” to celebrate its upcoming anniversary of Grand Theft Auto III. GTA Online standalone version will be available for free in its first three months exclusively to the PlayStation 5 and Rockstar is also promising PS4 PS Plus subscribers $1 million in GTA virtual currency at the start of each month until the game comes to the PS5.
The developer did not outline the upgrade path and it is not clear yet if owners of the game on PS4 or the Xbox One will get a free next-gen version.
GTA V continues to top the selling charts despite being released in 2013 and is currently one of the bestselling games of all time with more than 140 million copies sold to date.
