According to insiders and multiple reports, the long wait for an official reveal of the Switch 2 from Nintendo might finally be over. Yesterday, it has been eight years since the Switch was revealed, and the hybrid gaming console has become one of the best-selling consoles ever. Last year, in May, Nintendo promised to reveal the successor to the Switch before April 2025, and it looks like the announcement is imminent.
According to the reliable podcaster NateTheHate, the Switch 2 will be unveiled this week. “I can share with you that Nintendo Switch 2 will be revealed in the coming week… I have been told Switch 2 will be revealed on Thursday, January 16… just a few days from now,” he said on the latest episode of his show.
“I’ve heard that the reveal itself is going to focus almost exclusively on the console itself. There is not going to be any presence of games. There could be a game shown running on the screen, depending on how the trailer is put together, but software is not going to be a focus.” VGC’s report corroborates the story, while The Verge’s Tom Warren also confirmed that the Switch 2 will be revealed this week.
While the Switch 2 reveal is days away, NateTheHate added that the hardware could be available on shelves in May or June. The Switch 2 could launch with a new Mario Kart, while a 3D Mario could be released for the holiday of 2025.
There have been multiple leaks of the Switch 2 this January, and the console will not be much different from the Switch if the leaks are accurate. The Switch 2 will be slightly different than the Switch and feature magnetic Joy-Cons.
