Netflix wants to be more specific with its recommendations for you and the company is introducing two thumbs up to this effect. Two Thumbs Up is rolling out on the web, Android, iOS and TV. The company says the new feature is “an additional way for members to let us know what types of series and films you want to see more of.”
Netflix already has a Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down button which it introduced after abandoning its five-star rating system in 2017. The streaming giant’s algorithm is able to tailor a personalised profile for users based on movies or TV shows they like and do not like but the company’s Director of Product Innovation Christine Doig-Cardet says “we’ve learned over time that these feelings can go beyond a simple like or dislike. Providing an additional way to tell us when you’re really into something means a profile with recommendations that better reflect what you enjoy.”
Netflix says the Two Thumbs Up will help improve recommendations so users can see more of the series of movies they love. The single Thumbs Up still works so users can users get recommendations on what they like but the Double Thumbs Up makes recommendations even more specific. “For example, if you loved Bridgerton, you might see even more shows or films starring the cast, or from Shondaland,” Carder said in a blog post.
Netflix has constantly been working on improving the user experience on its platform. The company recently made it possible to remove TV series or movies from the Continue Watching row and previously also introduced Play Something in 2021, and Top 10 row in 2020.
