With Spotify already available on the PlayStation 5 at launch, Sony is now adding support for Apple Music. Starting from today, Apple Music subscribers will be able to stream and enjoy background music and video playback while playing video games.
The PS5 is the first console to integrate Apple Music and it becomes the second Apple service to be supported by Sony after the next-gen console launched with the Apple TV Plus app last November. New and existing subscribers of Apple TV Plus in partnership with Sony were also given six months of the service for free, as long as it is claimed until July 22, 2022 on the PlayStation 5.
Players can start the Apple Music app before starting a game, or during a gameplay session. Apple Music can be accessed from the Control Centre during a gameplay session by pressing the PS button on the DualSense wireless controller and selecting the Music Function card.
Players can also enjoy music videos on Apple Music on their PS5 consoles. Videos can be played in full screen; the audio will continue to play in the background should players want to hop into a game or resume gameplay.
