Apple yesterday announced the third generation of its wireless earbuds, the AirPods. The new AirPods feature a new design with a shorter stem than the Airpods Pro. Apple’s new wireless earbuds is available for pre-order to go on sale next week for $179.
The AirPods 3 retain the force sensor for media control from the previous generation but is now resistant to sweat and water with an IPX4 rating for the charging case and the earbuds. Battery life is now better with an extra hour over the AirPods Pro, and users can get up to 30 hours of total listening time with the charging case. The AirPods now support wireless charging through MagSafe.
Apple says the speaker’s voice through the AirPods will now come across “distinctly on calls” because the microphone is covered by an acoustic mesh which helps reduce the sound of the wind. The AirPods also has full HD voice quality thanks to AAC-ELD, a “superior speech codec” that provides “clear, natural communication for FaceTime calls.” Adaptive EQ comes to the AirPods for the first time, a feature that “tunes sound in real time based on how AirPods fit in the user’s ear.” Apple rolled out support for spatial audio with Dolby Atmos in June to Apple Music and the feature is carried on to the new AirPods
The second-generation AirPods is now cheaper and will be available for $129 as the new AirPods go on sale.
