WhatsApp continues to improve its privacy options. On Tuesday, the Meta-owned company announced the addition of two privacy updates: Silence Unknown Callers and Privacy Checkup.
“Silence Unmown Callers is designed to give you more privacy and control of your incoming calls,” WhatsApp shared in a blog post. “It helps to automatically screen out spam, scams, and calls from unknown people for increased protection. These calls will not ring on your phone, but will be visible in your Call list, in case it turns out to be someone important.”
Under the “Privacy” menu in “Settings,” users will now have the option to toggle on or off “Silence unknown callers.” When the option is switched on, the phone will not ring out when calls come from unknown callers, but users will see them in the Notifications and Calls tab.
The second update is a Privacy Checkup designed to guide users through the best privacy settings. Users who select “Start checkup” in Privacy settings will be taken through privacy options available for messages, calls, and personal information.
“Starting this week, we’re encouraging people to check in with one another securely via a private message so friends and loved ones know they have a safe space to open up.” The company added.
The company launched a Chat Lock feature earlier in May that lets users hide selected chats.
