WhatsApp is rolling out new privacy control settings that let users hide their profile photos, about and last seen status from specific people on their contacts list. The new update is rolling out globally to all users on Android and iOS.
Before the update, users only had three options for their profile photo, about, and last seen status. The new privacy control update adds a fourth option called “My contacts except…” that lets users have even more control over their privacy on WhatsApp. With the fourth option, users will be able to hide their profile photo, about, and last seen status from specific people on their contacts list but they also won’t be able to see the same updates from the contacts they are hidden from.
Additionally, WhatsApp is also rolling out a new feature for group calls. Users on group calls can now mute or message specific people just in case someone forgets to mute while having a distraction on group calls. There is also a new indicator that alerts others when someone joins a group call.
Last week, the Meta-owned company made it possible to transfer chat history from Android to iOS. Last year, it was only possible to move chat history from iOS to Android.
