Earlier this week, China was the venue for the Vivo U1 smartphone launch. Interestingly, this device was launched as the Y95 in India and the Philippines in 2018. However, the Vivo U1 offers impressive specifications with a budget price tag.
For instance, the Vivo U1 comes with massive screen size, an ideal mobile processor and an 8MP selfie sensor. It also has a battery capacity that handles the demands of heavy usage.

Vivo U1 Design and Display
The Vivo U1 has a width of 75.09 mm and a weight of 163 grams (with the battery included). It also comes in a bar shape like most devices in the smartphone market. These details make us believe that the U1 will be a portable device.
On the rear panel lies a centrally placed fingerprint scanner which lies beside a dual camera setup. The cameras are positioned vertically with an LED flash under both sensors.
The Vivo U1 has a 6.2-inch LCD that offers 1520 x 720 pixels. This display comes with a screen to body ratio of 82.64%. The smartphone also has a waterdrop notch that houses the front-facing camera. Slim bezels surround the phone and end in a narrow chin at the bottom.

This phone comes with a dual rear camera setup which consists of a 13MP primary sensor with f/2.2 aperture and a 2MP depth sensor with an f/2.4 opening. The primary camera supports HDR, AR shoot, Panorama and several modes including Professional Mode. It even shoots 1080p videos at 30fps.
The U1 has an 8MP selfie snapper with an opening of f/2.4. This sensor supports facial recognition via Vivo’s FaceWake technology. This means you can skip the fingerprint scanner and use Face Wake to unlock this smartphone. The device does not come with an LED flash for the selfie camera.

Under the glossy panel of the Vivo U1 lies a Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 chipset. This mobile processor clocks at 1.95GHz and works alongside a Qualcomm Adreno 505 GPU. The GPU can handle the demands of high-resolution graphics/ games.
The Vivo U1 comes in two variants with RAM of 2GB and 32GB. Both options also have internal storage spaces of 32GB and 64GB respectively. Both spaces can be expanded to 256GB with a MicroSD card.
The device also has dual slots that support Nano SIMs of all networks.
The Vivo U1 runs on the Android 8.1 Oreo-based on Vivo’s Funtouch 4.5.

One of the major attractions of the Vivo U1 is its battery. The smartphones have a massive 4030mAh irremovable cell. This offers users a regular usage time of 15 hours and an incredible 355 hours of idle mode. It even supports fast charging.

Vivo U1 Pricing and Availability
Buyers in China can get the budget-friendly 3GB RAM/32GB for CNY 799 ($119) while the flagship 4GB RAM/ 32GB storage model costs CNY 999 ($149). Purchases can be made at the Vivo e-Shop in China. But shipments will begin from February 26.
