Foldable phones seem to be the next big thing, with Samsung ready to unveil its own at the Unpacked event next week alongside the Galaxy flagships. According to renderings and patent image filings obtained by CNET, TCL, is known for making televisions, is looking into five designs for its foldable devices.
Last year, the first foldable device in the world was unveiled as the Royole Flexpai; TCL, also known for its Blackberry and Alcatel phones, may unveil flexible devices, including two tablets, two smartphones and a foldable phone which could be turned into a watch-like bracelet.
It should be noted that these are just patients and may not be carried out eventually. It is also unclear when or if the devices will hit the market. A foldable device could yet be released by 2020 by the company, as this was disclosed to CNET by an executive. It is, however, unclear whether it’s a phone as the company makes many products.
Samsung has already released a teaser for its foldable phone; a tablet when fully opened and a phone when closed. Its rumoured names include Galaxy X, Galaxy F, Galaxy Flex or Galaxy Fold.
Whether the TCL renderings are eventually carried out, foldable phones are here to stay.
