Twitter has announced Super Follows and Communities – two big upcoming features coming to the platform. With these features, users will be able to make money from their Twitter account by charging for additional content and also create and join interest-based groups.
Super Follows, the most interesting of the two features lets users monetize their account by charging followers for extra content which could be deals and discounts, exclusive tweets, subscription to a newsletter, a badge with your support or an access to an exclusive community. In an example, Twitter shared a $4.99 monthly subscription which users can cancel anytime.
Twitter has been hinting at having a subscription-based model and it is expected it will take a cut from the subscription fee. It is not uncommon for social platforms to create direct payment tools for its creators. Platforms such as Facebook, YouTube and Patreon have successfully integrated it.
With Communities, Twitter users can create and join interest-based groups, for example – #SocialJustice, Crazy for Cats, Plant Parents and many more. This will allow users see tweets concerning what they really care about.
Twitter did not state specifically when these features will be launching. They were listed as “what’s next” during a presentation for its analysts and investors yesterday.
