2025 is shaping up to be a big year for gaming with some blockbuster titles already lined up. On Tuesday, before closing its State of Play, Sony revealed the next entry from Ghost of Tsushima developer, Sucker Punch Productions, and it is titled Ghost of Yotei.
Ghost of Yotei will feature a new female protagonist, named Atsu. The introduction of Atsu closes the chapter on Jin Sakai and the Island of Tsushima from the previous Ghost game released on the PlayStation 4 in 2020. Ghost of Yotei will be a new story and a new different map for players to explore. The game will also be the first game from Sucker Punch to be built from the ground up for the PS5.
“While we aren’t diving into story specifics yet today, we can reveal that Atsu’s journey takes place in 1603, more than 300 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima,” the studio revealed in a PlayStation blog post announcing the game. “Our story is set in the lands surrounding Mount Yōtei, a towering peak in the heart of Ezo, an area of Japan known as Hokkaido in present day. In 1603, this area was outside the rule of Japan, and filled with sprawling grasslands, snowy tundras, and unexpected dangers. It’s a far cry from the organized samurai clans who lived in Tsushima, and it’s the setting for an original story we can’t wait to tell.”
Ghost of Yotei will build on the stunning visuals from Ghost of Tsushima, and it will feature new mechanics, gameplay improvements and new weapons.
Sony debuted the first trailer for the game with a 2025 release window but no actual date.
