Music streaming giant Spotify is launching real-time lyrics in 26 markets in the world across Southeast Asia, India and Latin America, according to TechCrunch. Spotify began testing the feature in select markets last year November and some Twitter users reported seeing real-time lyrics this February.
Spotify is partnering with Musixmatch to bring real-time lyrics to Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Peru, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, El Salvador, Uruguay, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong. Lyrics provider Musicmaxtch was also used by Spotify to last year to test the feature. Canada was among the select markets but the feature will not be available in Canada or the US when it launches officially today.
The feature will offer real-time lyrics in the language in which the songs are sung. Users will access the feature by tapping “Lyrics” at the bottom of the “Now Playing” screen, reports TechCrunch.
Spotify and Musixmatch cut ties in 2016 after previously working together before the former teamed up with Genius for its “Behind the Lyrics” feature which shows song facts, artists information and momentary lyrics flash in-between all these.
In Japan, Spotify users already have access to real-time lyrics with a different provider making it 27 countries in total for Spotify. Users across the 26 markets will begin getting the real-time lyrics feature from 10AM ET today.
