Sony’s PlayStation 5 console is now the fastest-selling console ever in US history. This feat was achieved in only five months considering the console was only launched in November.
NPD Group’s Mat Piscatella tweeted the new market research stating the PS5 was not only the fastest-selling console in US history in unit sales but also in dollar sales. Sony’s PS5 remain difficult to get in the market up till now and the record-breaking sales demonstrate how popular it is over Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and Series S.
During its last financial results in February, Sony revealed the PlayStation 5 had sold 4.5 million units globally only across the holiday period in 2020. Sony predicted the PS5 would have sold more than 7.6 million units by March 31, 2021.
The Nintendo Switch continues to perform well in the market outselling the PS5 for most unit and dollar sales in the month of March. This can be attributed to its stock availability and low price point. In November, Sony called the demand for the PS5 “unprecedented” and promised it was working on getting more stock out to retailers.
Demand for the PS5 is still very much and its sales show no sign of slowing down. With Sony having first-party exclusive titles on the way, the PS5 is guaranteed to break more records.
