OnePlus today unveiled its latest flagship devices; the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro. OnePlus is known for making Android devices capable of competing with the biggest in the industry at a cost-effective price. The mission remains the same with the price of the OnePlus 8 Pro kept under $1,000.
OnePlus 8 Pro
This device comes with the biggest screen yet of any OnePlus smartphone. It spots a 6.78-inch Fluid AMOLED display with support for up to 120Hz refresh rate. The screen also comes with a 240Hz touch sampling rate in order to minimize lag input.
OnePlus 8 Pro is said to have broken the colour setting accuracy for any smartphone ever made. The display is 10-bit and it comes with HDR10+ support. The device also comes with MEMC which scales 24fps video 120fps, OnePlus says it has optimized the software to make sure the phone carries out this effectively without any noticeable error.
OnePlus 8 Pro comes with a punch-hole cutout which houses the 16MP selfie camera an f/2.5 aperture. At the back is a two 48MP cameras with a telephoto lens and assistant module. The main camera features the 1/1.4-inch Sony IMX 689 sensor with 1.12µm native pixels and 2.24µm binned pixels. It has omni-directional autofocus on all pixels. The camera is capable of recording 4k videos at 60fps with the help of its new Single Shot 3-HDR feature which is enhances the dynamic range by capturing three exposures at once. The camera uses Electronic and Optical Image Stabilization.
The second 48MP camera has a 120 degrees ultrawide angle lens and it also serves as the macro camera. The third camera is an 8MP telephoto with 1.0µm behind the f/2.44 aperture lens and Optical Image Stabilization. The fourth camera serves as a colour filter for rendering many colour effects.
OnePlus 8 Pro ships Android 10 out of the box and it is powered by a Snapdragon 865 chipset with an 8GB/12GB of RAM and 128GB/256GB of internal storage.
It comes with 5G connectivity with sub-6GHz support. It also has WiFi 6 which is faster than its own 5G modem. It is powered by a 4,510mAh battery capacity via a. USB-C port with 30W fast charging and support for OnePlus own 30W Warp Charge wireless charging system. It has an in-display fingerprint scanner. It is also IP68 certified making it water and dust resistant.
The 8GB/128GB variant has a retail price of $899 while the 12GB/256GB variant costs $999. OnePlus 8 Pro will be available in Ultramarine Blue, Glacial Green and Onyx Black colours.
OnePlus 8 has a 6.55-inc display with a 1080p+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. It features a punch-hole display but has a different pane from the Pro version. It features the same HDR10+ support found in the Pro model.
It ships Android 10 out of the box and it is powered by the same Snapdragon 865 chipset. It has the same storage variants and RAM size as the OnePlus 8 Pro but its RAM is the LPDDR4X which is slightly slower while the Pro comes with a faster LPDDR5 RAM.
OnePlus 8 has a 48MP main camera with an older Sony IMX586 sensor which does not offer omni-directional autofocus. It comes with 0.8µm pixel with pixel-binning and there is both Optical and Electronic Image Stabilization. There a 16MP ultrawide angle camera and a 2MP macro camera. It has no telephoto camera but the 48MP sensor supports a 2X zoom when cropped.
It has the same 16MP selfie camera as the OnePlus 8 Pro which shoots 1080p videos at 30fps.
It comes with in-display fingerprint sensor and the same 5G and WiFi 6 connectivity as the Pro model. It is powered by a 4,300mAh battery with 30W fast charging support.
OnePlus 8 will be available starting April 24 alongside the OnePlus 8 Pro. The base model costs $700 while the 12GB/256GB variant costs $800. Colour options are Interstellar Glow, Glacier Green and Onyx Black. There is a fourth colour (Polar Silver) which is exclusive to Verizon.
