It has only taken seven years, but Nintendo has finally unveiled its standalone charger for the Switch’s Joy-Con controllers. In an announcement on X, the company dubbed the accessory Joy-Con Charging Stand (Two-Way) accessory and it will be available from 17th October.
It’s a surprising move from Nintendo since the Switch 2 is expected to be unveiled next year. The announcement of the new Joy-Con Charging Stand probably means it will support the controller for the Switch 2 with the Switch reaching the end of its lifecycle.
The new charger makes it easy to power up two Joy-Con controllers at the same time without attaching them to the Switch. The Joy-Con Charging Stand can take up to two controllers and players can choose to charge the controllers without it, offering flexibility.
Interestingly, Nintendo has not yet revealed the new accessory’s pricing, but it will be launching in Europe and Japan on October 17th.
Nintendo is making a big swansong for the Switch. Last month in its Nintendo Direct, the company revealed upcoming titles including The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom releasing on September 26th, Super Mario Party Jamboree launching on October 17th, and Mario and Luigi Brothership which arrives on November 7th. In 2025, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is expected to launch for the Switch 2.
