Netflix is launching a new games app designed for kids ages 8 and under, called Netflix Playground. The new games app is available on all Netflix subscription tiers, with no ads, in-app purchases, or extra fees. The standalone app is currently available in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, the Philippines, and New Zealand.

“We’re building a world where kids can not only watch their favorite stories, they can step inside them and interact with their favorite characters,” said John Derderian, Netflix Vice President of Animation Series + Kids & Family TV. “We’re creating a seamless destination for discovery, learning, and play. Whether it’s reuniting with Hank and the Trash Truck crew for new adventures or making a smoothie with Peppa Pig, watching and playing on Netflix can be the fun and easiest part of every family’s day.”

The app is available on iOS and Android and can be downloaded to a smartphone or tablet, giving kids access to Netflix’s “ever-growing” library of games. Netflix says games on the app are playable offline without an internet connection, making it the “perfect companion for long airplane rides or grocery trips.” A global rollout of Netflix Playground is expected on April 28.

Kids will get to enjoy games such as Playtime With Peppa Pig, where they can “jump into Peppa’s world with a collection of playful activities,” or the Sesame Street game, where they get to “hang out with Elmo, Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Oscar and more beloved pupper pals.” Other games include Dr. Seuss’s Horton!, Storybots, Bad Dinosaurs, and Dr. Seuss’s Red Fish, Blue Fish.

Netflix first included games as part of its service in 2021, but its effort so far has failed to reach desired heights despite its ambitious plans. Last year, the company revised its strategy and pivoted to TV gaming, releasing some new family-friendly titles.
