If you thought The Last of Us Part II was not hard enough and you would like to give it another run with intense gameplay, there is good news for you. Naughty Dog today announced a new update which will be live August 13 adding Grounded difficulty, Permadeath mode and new gameplay modes and trophies.
If you played The Last of Us on PS3 or the remastered version on PS4, you will be familiar with Grounded difficulty. Grounded difficulty makes the game incredibly harder by making enemies deadlier, disabling Listen mode, limiting ammo, upgrades and making crafting materials incredibly scarce. With the update, Grounded is available from the menu and you won’t have to complete the game first to unlock it.
If you thought Grounded is not enough for you, you will be happy to learn about the introduction of Permadeath mode. This mode is newly introduced; with this custom mode, its either you complete the game without dying or you start over from the beginning. There are however custom settings which means you can enable the mode based on chapters or per-act basis.
If you want that Platinum trophy, Grounded difficulty and Permadeath mode adds two additional trophies which you must get.
The update also adds a host of new graphics rendering modes such as an 8-bit retro filter and sepia-toned classic. There are new audio modifiers and new unlockable gameplay modifiers such One Shot or Touch of Death that enable one-hit kills or Infinite Ammo, Infinite Crafting, or Infinite Listen Mode Range. In summary, Grounded difficulty brings the updates below:
- Saves now display playtime up to the second
- Film Grain Adjustment option
- Disable Listen Mode option
- Motion Sensor Function Aiming option
- Arc Throw HUD Display option
- Aiming Acceleration Scale option
- Aiming Ramp Power Scale option
- Accessibility improvements to Ground Zero encounter, collectible tracking, Enhanced Listen Mode for collectibles, and rope gameplay
The game will automatically get the update on August 13.
