Motorola Edge+ Announced with 108MP Camera and 5G Support

Motorola is joining the big leagues with its newly Announced Motorola Edge+ and Edge smartphones. The Edge+ is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset and both devices come with 5G connectivity.

Microsoft Edge+ comes is the first smartphone from the brand to feature a 90Hz refresh rate. It comes with a 6.7” HDR10+ AMOLED panel and a 1080p+ resolution. It has a punch-hole cutout at the upper left corner of the screen which houses the 25MP selfie camera. Below the screen is an in-display fingerprint scanner.

The phone will be available in the global market as well as the US market. The US model brings mmWave 5G which download speed could rise up to 4Gpbs on the Verizon network who are the US launch partner. The ones shipping to the Global market comes with support for sub-6GHz 5G.

At the back is a triple rear camera setup with a 108MP optically stabilized main shooter with an f/1.8 lens. The sensor is capable of 4-in-1 pixel binning to produce 27MP photos. The second camera is an 8MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom lens and optical image stabilization. Completing the triple setup is a 16MP ultrawide camera with a 117 degrees field of view, it is capable of taking macro shots and also serves as the ToF camera.  The camera is capable of shooting 6k videos.

Motorola Edge+ is powered the flagship Snapdragon 865 chipset and its paired with a 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.0 of internal storage. It is charged via a USB-C port and comes with a 5,000mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging. It is also compatible with Qi wireless charging. It also comes with a 3.5mm audio jack.

It will be available from May 14 in Smokey Sangaria and Thunder Grey colours at a cost of $1,000 in the US through Verizon and €1,199 in global markets.

Motorola Edge

The regular Edge features the same screen size and 90Hz refresh rate as the Edge+ but it has no HDR10+ support.

It is powered by a Snapdragon 765 chipset with support for 5G connectivity which is configured for sub-6GHz networks. It is paired with a 6GB RAM for the Global version and 4GB for the North America market. It had a 128GB internal storage which is expandable further via the microSD card slot which is lacking in the Edge+.

In terms of camera, it features a punch-hole cutout with a 25MP selfie camera. At the back is a triple rear camera setup with a 64MP main sensor which is joined by an ultrawide and a telephoto camera.

The device is powered by a 4,500mAh battery capacity with 18W fast charging support. It has no support for wireless charging. It ships Android 10 out of the box just like the Edge+ and Motorola has promised an update for Android 11.

It will be available in Solar Black and Midnight Magnetta for €599 in May.
