MediaTek has unveiled its latest chipset, the Helio G85. The chipset powers Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 9 and its GPU is faster than the Helio G80.
The chipset comes with two Cortex-A75 cores at 2.0GHz and six Cortex-A55 units at 1.8GHz. It has a Mali-G52 GPU which is clocked at 1GHz and upgrade on the G80 with 950MHz. The Helio G85 shares similarity with G80 and it comes with VoW (voice on wakeup) and enhanced HyperEngine Game technology.
The chip has the power to switch between networks in just 13 milli seconds and it comes with intelligent prediction of WiFi and LTE concurrency. It promises faster response between cell towers and the cell phone and will delay calls while in-game without dropping the data connection – an issue some flagship chipsets cannot navigate.
More smartphones in the $200 price range are expected to arrive with the Helio G85 and MediaTek ships the chipset to manufacturers.
