Netflix just debuted an official trailer for The Witcher: Blood Origin, and fans are surprised to see Jaskier, the bard, in it. Blood Origin is a spinoff from the main The Witcher series and takes place 1200 years before the story of Geralt.

The trailer is more than two minutes long and focuses on key characters who will appear in the four-episode prequel that premieres on Netflix on December 25th, 2022. The trailer shows what to expect from Michelle Yeoh’s character Scian, and her co-stars, including Sophia Brown and Laurence O’Fuarain.

As for Jaskier, his lute appears towards the end of the trailer, while Seanchai a character played by Minnie Driver, asks him, “I need you to sing a story back to life.” A haggard and bewildered-looking Jaskier replies, “are you sure you’ve got the right man for this?” Jaskier’s return was not explained, but it could be due to the monoliths seen in the trailer.

The Witcher: Blood Origin takes place 1200 years before the events of the main The Witcher series, and it will tell the story of the creation of the first witcher. Meanwhile, the mainline series has been renewed for a fourth season, with the third season still to debut in 2023. Netflix has also announced that Liam Hemsworth will replace Henry Cavill as Geralt for the fourth season.
