The Witcher’s third season does not arrive on Netflix until the summer of 2023, but the show has already been renewed for a fourth season. While no release date has been released yet for the fourth season, Netflix has announced Liam Hemsworth will be replacing Henry Cavill as the titular monster-hunter Geralt of Rivia from the fourth season.

My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4,” Cavill shared on Instagram. “In my stead, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men. Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.”

Netflix’s The Witcher show is based on Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski’s best-selling series of The Witcher book. The show tells the story of monster-hunter and Witcher, Geralt of Rivia, as he travels across the continent forming an alliance with sorceress Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) against monsters and enemies who seek to capture Cintran princess Ciri (Freya Allan).

Hemsworth previously starred in Hunger Games, The Last Song, Independence Day: Resurgence and is set to star in the upcoming Poker Face with Russell Crowe, which releases on November 16th. “As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia,” Hemsworth said on Instagram. “Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure. Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world.”

Before season 3 of The Witcher comes out in 2023, Netflix will premiere a spin-off titled The Witcher: Blood Origin on December 25th. The spin-off will explore the story of the creation of the first Witcher. It will take some time before Hemsworth graces the screen as the menacing Geralt of Rivia.
