The Witcher is Netflix’s most-watched first season show ever and the company intends to capitalize on its popularity. Netflix has already ordered an anime version of the show called The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf in January and the company has now announced a new prequel that will take place 1200 years before Geralt of Rivia.
The Witcher: Blood Origin is a six-part live-action spin-off series from Declan de Barra and Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. It plans to detail thousands of years before Geralt of Rivia when “the worlds of monsters, men and elves merged into one, and the first Witcher came to be.”
Filming of season 2 of The Witcher has been delayed due to the pandemic but it’s set to resume August 17th, production, however, is not expected to end until early 2021.
Starring Henry Cavill, The Witcher became a hit series when it debuted last year December. The soundtrack was also successful thanks to the “Toss a Coin to Your Witcher” soundtrack which has garnered millions of streams across different platforms.
There is no exact date yet on the airing date of The Witcher: Blood Origin.
