After months of leaks and rumours, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus were finally unveiled by Apple yesterday at the Steve Jobs Theatre. The two new flagships looks similar to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus but Apple has made some significant upgrades.
iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus Features and Performance
One of the biggest talk on Social media was the new glass back on the devices. As with most flagship Android devices like the Samsung S8 with wireless charging, Apple made the same feature possible on the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, hence the glass back because it wouldn’t have been possible to make this work on the aluminium cover like the iPhone 7.
iPhone 8 is glass on both the front and back so now the whole phone will crack when I take an ugly selfie 😍

The wireless charging functions just like in the Samsung S8 Plus by placing it on its charging pad to charge. With Apple earbuds not coming with a cord anymore there is also no 3.5mm audio jack on the new flagships.
The other upgrades made are with the A11 Bionic faster chipset, a true tone technology and a double rear camera on the 8 Plus. The true tone display is already on the iPad Pro and it functions by adjusting display based on room ambient light. The A11 Bionic chip used on the iPhone 8 is 25 percent faster than the A10 chip used on the iPhone 7. Apple also says the Bionic A11 has 4 more performance cores apart from the main 64-bit six-core chipset which is 70 percent faster than the iPhone 7. There is also a new GPU which is 30 percent faster.

The last significant update is found in the camera side, the iPhone 8 Plus comes with dual back camera with f1.8 and f2.8 apertures. The iPhone 8 Plus has a new Portrait Mode which detects lightning effectively when portrait shots are taken. For video shooting, there is still 4K support but with a faster frame rate now at 60fps. There is major update on Slow motion videos from the iPhone 7 and the 8 Plus supports 1080 resolution at 240 frame rates per second which is twice of the iPhone 7. The iPhone 8 has a 12MP camera with f1.8 aperture and an optical image stabilization. Lest we forget, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are also water and dust resistant.
